Who?
The cluster "Mana" at the MHPCC DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) will undergo a system maintenance on 25 April 2012. Scheduled outage will be between 0800 (HST) and 1700 (HST). What? We will be configuring the Energy Aware Scheduler (EAS) system on Mana during this maintenance period. Why? MHPCC is looking into energy efficient computing practices and the EAS system provides the mechanism for powering down non-utilized compute nodes to save energy. How does this affect you? You may see delays in job start times if you are allocated a node that was powered down to save energy. Thank You, MHPCC User Services

New Ensight Version available on the Utility Servers

A new version of the client-server visualization package Ensight is now available on the Utility Servers. This default version can be accessed by use of modules via the command:
module load ensight/10.0.1a Version 9.2.2d will be retained as the current alternative version. If you wish to access versions other than the default, it can be accessed via the command: module load ensight/9.2.2d The Ensight V10.x user interface has changed significantly in this release and offers many additional features. Ensight is available for use on the Utility Servers via the Secure Remote Desktop (SRD) and can be accessed via the command: module load ensight/10.0.1a ensight100.srd -np # where "#" is the number of processes you want to use on the allocated node Ensight can also be run in client/server mode from your desktop Linux/Mac/Windows workstation using HPC job launching capabilities available from Ensight. Pre-configured application bundles can be downloaded from any of the utility servers from the directory /app/projects/client-server/Ensight. Installation instructions are available in the download directories. Once the application is loaded on your Linux/Mac system, Ensight HPC job launching can be launched to the utility servers (and selected HPC systems) via the command: ensight100.launcher From a Windows machine, the startup command for Ensight HPC job launching is: e100launcher. Availability of these pre-configured application bundles does not relieve you of any local organizational rules and regulations related to the installation of workstation software. If your organization requires any approvals prior to the installation of software, you should continue to obtain that local approval prior to installing this software. Application License Server Outage affecting MHPCC DSRC Users

Connectivity to the Shared Application License Servers will be unavailable due to a scheduled system outage, between the hours of 1300-1500 EST, Tuesday, 14 February 2012.
Running jobs using shared SW licenses may terminate due to the unavailability of the remote SW license servers. Users should plan accordingly. The Applications that use the remote SW license servers are Abaqus, Accelrys, Ansys, CFD++, Cobalt, Ensight, Fluent (acfd), LS-Dyna, Matlab, Star CD and Totalview. If your license fails, contact CCAC with job numbers, and we will work with you to refund MHPCC DSRC allocation hours. Shared License Servers Inaccessible January 26th, 2012

The Enterprise-wide Shared License Servers (rls1,2,3) will be inaccessible on Thursday January 26th, 2012 from 2000 to 2200 (8pm-10pm EST) due to DREN maintenance. Jobs starting or running during this time on any production system across the HPCMP enterprise which require communication to the Shared License Server will likely fail.

NOTICE - UPCOMING CHANGES TO SOFTWARE LICENSE RESERVATIONS:
The new Shared License Buffer (SLB) will go into production on 1/30/2012. As of this date, SLB license reservations will be required to run all SLB-managed software Packages (Abaqus, Accelrys, ANSYS, Cobalt, MATLAB). Job submissions without SLB reservations will be denied software licenses. For additional information, please visit the CCAC User Portal at help.ccac.hpc.mil.
